Baptisms

Baptisms

Baptism marks the start of a journey of faith, which involves turning away from the darkness of self-centredness, turning towards Christ and becoming a member of the local and worldwide Christian family.

Baptism is a 'sacrament': a visible sign of God's love. In baptism, we are thanking God for his gift of life and publicly acknowledging his love. We are acknowledging that we all need to turn away from the darkness of evil and to make a new start with God.

In Hellidon we welcome people of any age for baptism.

The date of the service is discussed so that it fits in with the family, the godparents and the schedule of services for the Church concerned. Then there is a time of preparation for the parents of a baby, at which those involved go over the service together and look at the promises that will be made on behalf of the child and some of the ways that these can be fulfilled as the family grow together.

Each person to be baptised has already received a name, and at the Baptism service, is received into the Church’s family.

It is a very moving and wonderful experience when a person receives the gift of God’s Spirit at Baptism.
